Seahawks cruise past Houston Gladiators, 79-65, behind Ellis’ 23 points

Devin Ellis scored 23 points with six rebounds and two steals in leading Lamar State College Port Arthur past the Houston Gladiators 79-65 on Saturday afternoon in the Carl Parker Center.

Ellis, a Beaumont Central High School graduate, completed his collegiate career-best performance by going 9 of 13 from the floor and 5 of 8 from the free throw line. Seahawk center Javante Walker came off the bench for 10 points and five rebounds. The win moves the Hawks' won-loss record to 3-2 for the season.

The Gladiators, an all-star college team from Houston, played close to the Seahawks early in the game as LSCPA struggled from beyond the 3-point line. The inside attack from sophomore Ellis and 6-foot-8 sophomore transfer Walker eventually helped the Hawks stretch their lead late in the second half.

The Gladiators were led by Sheldon Williams' 16 points.

Freshman Devaughn Thomas crashed the boards hard for the Seahawks, grabbing nine rebounds with four assists, while freshman Terrance Minor hit two 3-pointers, going 3 of 5 from the floor to add eight points for LSCPA.

The Seahawks hit the road Tuesday night when they travel to take on Baton Rouge Community College with tipoff at 6 p.m. Then, LSCPA starts a three-game homestand that features Jarvis Christian College on Thursday, Nov. 15, at 6 p.m., Lone Star College-Kingwood on Saturday, Nov. 17, at 3 p.m., and North American University on Tuesday, Nov. 20, at 7 p.m.

NJCAA Region 14 play then begins with a road trip to Tyler Junior College on Wednesday, Nov. 28. Tipoff is at 7 p.m.
