Lamar State College Port Arthur sophomore guard Tevin Baker (25) goes up for a basket against Lone Star College-Kingwood's Chris Buchunam. The Seahawks beat the Coyotes 104-58 in the non-conference game at the Carl Parker Center on Saturday.

Freshman Devaughn Thomas picked up his first collegiate double-double and Lamar State College Port Arthur claimed back-to-back wins with a 104-58 shellacking of Lone Star College-Kingwood on Saturday afternoon.

LSCPA moved to 5-3 with the non-conference win amid a three-game home stand at the Carl Parker Center. The Hawks are home again Tuesday when they take on North American University. Tipoff for that game is 7 p.m.

The final non-conference game before the start of NJCAA Region 14 play will also serve as an opportunity for fans to pay tribute to LSCPA government professor Mavis Triebel, being honored as part of the Texas State University System recognition of her longtime service to the college and community.

The Seahawks and Coyotes played even for the first five minutes of Saturday's game before LSCPA broke loose with a 13-point run to take a 26-8 lead. Much of that early offensive attack came from the perimeter with Thailan Wesley and Jamyus Jones combining for 22 points to take the Hawks to the locker room with a 52-27 advantage.

Thomas, who scored just four points in the first half, exploded through the final 20 minutes, finishing with 18 points and 10 rebounds for his first college double-double performance.

By game's end, the Seahawks would have five players in double figures. Showing the strength in the depth of its bench this season, four of those double-figure performances came from non-starters.

Wesley finished with 15 points, while Jones had 14. Braylon Chaisson, who had an earth-moving dunk in the first half, had 11 points with six rebounds, and Nathan Bailey, who was 5 of 7 from the field, added another 11.

Sophomore guard Tevin Baker made his impact as a great teammate, sharing the ball for 10 assists while hitting 3 of 4 from the field, including a 3-pointer, for seven points.

Sophomore Devin Ellis had nine points with three rebounds, going perfect from the free throw line in the Seahawks' winning effort.

The Hawks are gearing up for their first NJCAA Region 14 game when they travel to Tyler Junior College on Wednesday, November 28, at 7 p.m. The conference game will be broadcast live with video at coopersports.net and with audio on 1450/1510 AM Sports Radio.
