Seahawks fall in close game against Clarendon

Lamar State College Port Arthur never takes the easy road, especially when it concerns a road trip for the men's basketball team. The Seahawks traveled to the Texas East-West Challenge in Plano on Friday, November 8, to take on one of the top teams in the NJCAA. In spite of putting five players in double-figures, the Seahawk fell by four points, 84-80 in suffering their first loss of the season to Clarendon College.

The Seahawks, now 2-1, were led by sophomore Jamyus Jones' 19 points as he drained four 3-pointers, going 6 of 13 from the field and 3 of 4 from the free throw line. He added six rebounds, an assist, and a blocked shot to his tally for the game.

Sophomore Devaughn Thomas picked up a double-double performance, scoring 13 points with 10 rebounds while sophomore Darion Chatman also chipped in 13 points, grabbing four rebounds with two assists.

Freshman J'Son Brooks scored 12 points and Darrell Jones came off the bench for the Seahawks to score 10 with five rebounds.

The Seahawks stayed even with Clarendon, ranked in the top 25 in the nation, but couldn't hold on in the waning moments of the game. Donchevell Nugent came off the bench for Clarendon to score a game-high 29 points while starter Russell Harrison had 16 points and eight boards.

LSCPA continues its weekend road trip with a game Saturday against Top 10 team South Plains College with a 10 a.m. tipoff in the second day of the East-West Challenge.
