Seahawks fall to No. 13 Tallahassee State 80-59

Lamar State College Port Arthur exploded out of the gate, going up by as many as seven points over No. 13-ranked Tallahassee midway through the first half. Tallahassee withstood the challenge, though, outscoring the Seahawks 36-19 in the second half for an 80-59 win in the first day of the Pensacola (Fla.) College Thanksgiving Classic.

Sophomore Devaughn Thomas led the Seahawks with 13 points and four rebounds, while teammate Jamyus Jones added nine points with three assists. Redshirt sophomore Justice Vaughn scored eight points with Kanntrell Burney and Terrance Minor each adding seven points in the loss.

The Hawks out-shot Tallahassee in the first half hitting 54 percent from the field compared to the Eagles' 53 percent mark. LSCPA couldn't keep pace in the second half though as Tallahassee shot 46 percent from the field compared the the Seahawks' 30 percent mark. After knocking down 7 of 12 3-pointers in the first half, LSCPA managed just 1 of 11 in the second half.

The Seahawks continue their tournament play against home team Pensacola at 8 p.m. Tuesday.
