No. 17 Panola out-distances Seahawks 85-52

Panola College, the 17th-ranked junior college basketball squad in the nation, was No. 1 Saturday when it came to 3-point shots.

The Ponies from Carthage improved to 11-2 on the season and 3-0 in Region XIV play after they hit 13 of their 29 attempts from outside the bonus arc and defeated Lamar State College Port Arthur 85-52 at the Carl Parker Center in Port Arthur.

The Seahawks, 4-8 overall and 0-3, have played half their games this season against Division I NJCAA outfits ranked in the Top 25. Sophomore Devaughn Thomas led LSCPA with 14 points and fellow soph Terrance Minor added 11 points. Port Arthur sophomore Darion Chatman recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Panola sophomore Kelyn Pennie hit 6 of 9 3-point shots and led his team with 20 points.

LSCPA hit 8 of 30 on 3-pointers.

The Seahawks return to the court after the Christmas holidays when they host the Seahawks New Year's Classic, Dec. 30-31, at the Parker Center.

They take on Louisiana Christian at 4 p.m. Monday, Dec. 30 and CMP Prep at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 31.
