The Navarro College Bulldogs kept up their run for a top Region 14 tournament seeding with a 79-66 win over Lamar State College Port Arthur in a Wednesday afternoon game in downtown Port Arthur.

Seahawks leading scorer Kanntrell Burney poured in six 3-pointers and shared high-point honors with Navarro College sophomore guard Edward Manuel, both scoring 21.

Ty Archibald hit five 3-pointers and scored 16 points to complement Burney's offensive effort in the loss.

The Bulldogs, winners of six in a row and standing in second place in NJCAA Region 14, won the battle of the boards 41-25 as they improved to 12-5 on the season behind once-beaten Trinity Valley Community College.

The regional tournament in Jacksonville begins April 6 for the Seahawks, now 5-12 for the season. The top four regular-season finishers draw first-round byes, not hitting the court until April 8.

As the regular season continues, LSCPA hits the road for a 4 p.m. Saturday, March 27 game at Tyler Junior College before playing its final home date of 2021 at 4 p.m. Saturday, March 31 against Coastal Bend College.

Navarro broke from a 28-28 tie a minute before half to lead 36-29 at intermission. The Bulldogs led by 19 points, 53-44, less than five minutes into the second half and went up by 21 at 63-42 with 9:34 remaining.

The Seahawks fought back on a four-point play when Des McQuain was fouled while making a 3-point bucket, getting LSCPA within nine points, 67-58, with 5:20 left. Burney's dish and Li'Jon Smith's driving layup with 2:02 remaining cut the margin to eight points, 65-73, before the Bulldogs hit back-to-back treys.
