Five Seahawks scored in double figures as Lamar State College Port Arthur celebrated the news of its national ranking with a 100-74 non-conference win over UpTempo Academy at the Carl Parker Center in Port Arthur on Tuesday, November 16, 2021.

The Seahawks, ranked No. 18 after back-to-back wins over NJCAA Top 10 teams this past weekend, were led by Landyn Tyler's 14 points, five assists and four rebounds. LSCPA moves to 6-0 with the win as they prepare to head to Pensacola, Florida early next week for a three-game tournament run that will include yet another Top 10 opponent.

Guard Desmond McQuain scored 13 in the effort against UpTempo, while Evan Palmquist added 11, and Quindarius Thomas and Kharee McDaniel each chipped in 10 points. Freshman Devon McCain and sophomore Kanntrell Burney each led on the boards with five rebounds apiece.

UpTempo came out hot to start the game, going on a 7-0 run to keep pace with the Seahawks early. The challenge wouldn't last long as the Hawks took off, eventually leading by as much as 30 points in the second half. This is the second time this season LSCPA has hit the century mark, scoring 107 against Champions College on November 5.

Myron Washington Jr., the Seahawks big center, added seven blocked shots to his season total, helping him maintain his hold on the No. 1 spot in the country in defensive rejections. He currently has 44 blocks in six appearances, averaging 7.3 blocks per game.

The Seahawks travel to Pensacola for a three-game set that starts Monday at 3 p.m. against No. 10-ranked Northwest Florida State College. The Seahawks take on host team Pensacola State College at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, November 23, then finish the tourney with a 1 p.m. game on Wednesday, November 24, against Gulf Coast State College.

Once the team returns from a short Thanksgiving respite, they'll open NJCAA Region 14 play with a December 1 game against Panola College in Carthage.
