Two complete-game pitching performances and a booming home run highlighted a doubleheader sweep by Lamar State College Port Arthur on Wednesday afternoon as the Seahawks beat Baton Rouge Community College 5-2 and 5-2 at Martin Field.

The Seahawks improved their season record to 8-9 overall as they prepare to travel to Trinity Valley Community College for a non-conference doubleheader Friday starting at 2 p.m. The scheduled NJCAA Region 14 Crossover Tournament set for this weekend has been cancelled due to impending bad weather in the East Texas region where the tourney was set to be played.

Britni Hunt worked the mound for a complete-game win in the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader, allowing just six hits and two earned runs for the victory. She picked up nine strikeouts, bringing her season total to 52 in 11 appearances. Her record on the hill improved to 3-4 with the victory.

Heading into the fourth inning, the Seahawks trailed 2-1. That's when sophomore Taylor Frederick boomed a no-doubt, three-run home run over the centerfield wall to give the Hawks a 4-2 advantage. LSCPA freshman Elicia Gonzales picked up a run-scoring single later in the inning, plating fellow freshman Brooke Smith, who had reached on a single and stole second.

The early run of the game for the Seahawks came in the third inning with Smith doubling to left field then coming home on a double by Olivia Rivera. Smith finished 2 for 3 with two runs scored, while Rivera was 2 for 3 with a run batted in. Freshman Rebecca Delome was also 2 for 3 with a double and a run scored.
