Weatherford College edges Seahawks 3-2 in Cowtown Classic

FORT WORTH – Lamar State College Port Arthur nearly escaped with a sweep of its second day of play at the Cowtown Classic on Saturday. The Seahawks won their afternoon game over North Central Texas College 7-5 but just missed out on the sweep after falling to Weatherford College 3-2 in the early game.

The Hawks are now 4-4 for the season with their first home doubleheader of the year coming on Tuesday when they face non-conference foe Bossier Parish Community College starting at 1 p.m. on Martin Field on the LSCPA campus.

The Seahawks took a 1-0 lead in the fourth and added a run in the sixth but couldn't hold on as Weatherford scored one in the fourth and two in the fifth for the win.

The hot-hitting Seahawks went cold at the plate, managing just two hits, one by sophomore Olivia Rivera and a two-run double by freshman Rebecca Delome.

Freshman pitcher Britni Hunt went the distance through six innings, taking the loss after allowing three earned runs on six hits. She hurled four strikeouts but gave up five walks in the effort.
