Sophomore Taylor Frederick went 2 for 3 with two runs batted in and a run scored to lead Lamar State College Port Arthur but the Seahawks still fell short in a 9-3 NJCAA Region 14 loss to Coastal Bend College on Saturday, April 20.

Frederick represented two of the Seahawks' six hits in the game with one of those a round-trip shot in the third inning that plated Makasha Brown, who had reached on a single to open the inning.

LSCPA's only other run of the game came in the seventh inning when Vanessa Espitia singled home Jessica Saenz. Saenz had opened the inning with a single, followed by a hit by Elicia Gonzales. A fielder's choice grounder by Brown put her at first and Saenz at third, setting up Espitia's RBI single to center field.

Britni Hunt took the loss in the pitcher's circle, giving up eight runs, six earned, on eight hits with four walks and four strikeouts. Saenz finished the game, working the final two innings, allowing just one unearned run on two hits with one strikeout.
