Offense struggles in 9-1 conference loss to Blinn College

Lamar State College Port Arthur managed just one run on five hits in a 9-1 loss to the nation's No. 18-ranked Blinn College on Friday afternoon.

The loss dropped the Seahawks to 15-23 overall and 6-13 in league play while the Buccaneers improved to 38-12 and 18-0.

Blinn College started its scoring early, picking up two runs in the first inning and later adding five runs in the fourth. The Seahawks finally got on the board in the top of the sixth inning. Freshman center fielder Brooke Smith doubled to open the inning, moving to third on a fly ball by sophomore Taylor Frederick. Freshman Britni Hunt picked up the RBI on a sacrifice fly for the Hawks.

The Buccaneers came back in the bottom of the sixth, scoring two runs to end the contest on the conference's run rule.

Smith finished 1 for 1 with two walks, while Makasha Brown, Hunt, Vanessa Espitia and Olivia Rivera each accounted for a hit apiece for LSCPA.

Hunt took the loss in the pitcher's circle, working four innings and giving up seven runs, six earned, on 12 hits with a strikeout and two walks. Espitia came on in relief, working 1.2 innings, allowing two earned runs on three hits with a walk.
