GAME 2: LSCPA 6, Angelina College 5

LUFKIN -- Let's just say the Seahawks have a flair for the dramatic.

Down 3-1 heading into the seventh inning against NJCAA Region 14 foe Angelina College, Lamar State College Port Arthur put five runs on the board and then held off the Roadrunners in the bottom half of the inning to claim a 6-5 win. The victory accounted for a doubleheader split against Angelina College.

The split, with LSCPA losing Game 1 in a 13-1 decision, puts the Seahawks even at 2-2 in Region 14 play. The Hawks, 10-24 overall, face non-conference foe Baton Rouge Community College on the road this Saturday with games scheduled for 1 and 3 p.m.

The Seahawks' big seventh inning started with a walk to freshman Mia Guerrero. Allie Armstrong popped up to right field, but an error there put runners at first and third. Haleigh Hughes cashed in on that opportunity with a line drive single to center. Pinch runners Hannah Murchison and Alexa Delagarza both scored to tie the game at 3 apiece.

After back-to-back outs, the Hawks orchestrated the two-out rally, started by a Makayla Marquez single that plated pinch runner Denae Hernandez from second. After a pair of walks, the Seahawks had the bases loaded for Morgan Kerr who singled to plate two for a 6-3 lead.

Angelina scored three runs in the second inning and two more in the bottom of the seventh in its attempt to sneak away with a doubleheader sweep.

Two Angelina College errors in the fourth inning helped give LSCPA its early run of the game as Sydney Salinas picked up the RBI on a ground out with Rayven Ramos coming home for a 3-1 difference on the scoreboard.

Hughes and Kerr each had two runs batted in as the Hawks picked up five hits overall in the game. Guerrero went the distance in the circle, allowing three earned runs on 10 hits with a walk.

GAME 1: Angelina College 13, LSCPA 1

Angelina scored five in the first, another in the second, and seven more in the fourth to put the Hawks away 13-1 in the early game of the doubleheader.

The Hawks scored their sole run in the fourth when Kerr doubled home Marisa Rosales who had gotten on base with a one-out single to center. Kerr finished 1 for 2, while Guerrero was 2 for 2 in the game. A trio of Seahawks pitchers -- Armstrong, Guerrero, and Megan Harrison -- combined for 11 earned runs on 10 hits with seven walks.

The Seahawks are scheduled to return to Region 14 play on Monday, March 25, weather permitting, in a doubleheader at Martin Field in Port Arthur. Those games, already postponed once by weather, are tentatively set to start at 1 and 3 p.m.
