Seahawks take two against Coastal Bend in NJCAA Region 14 softball opener

The Lamar State College Port Arthur Seahawks are on a roll, winning five of their last six games, including a doubleheader sweep of Coastal Bend College on Wednesday, 8-0 and 11-1, to open NJCAA Region 14 conference play.

This is the first time in school history that the Seahawks have started their conference season with an opening-day sweep. They are now 14-8 overall for the 2025 campaign.

The Hawks make their conference home debut this Saturday when they take on Blinn College with a 1 p.m. doubleheader at Martin Field, located on Lakeshore Drive in Port Arthur. The Buccaneers are 4-14 this season and 2-2 in conference after a split against Alvin Community College on Wednesday.

"We've had a great non-conference experience, and we were ready to get started with conference play," Head Coach Brittany Baker said. "Coastal Bend is no pushover, and we knew we had a challenge, especially playing at their place. We showed a lot of poise and confidence today, especially with our pitching. This is a great way to start region play."
