Seahawks fall short in bid to advance in NJCAA Region 14 TournamentMarch 07, 2019Lamar State College Port Arthur has spent the 2018-19 men’s basketball season playing the role of giant killer, defeating some of the best NJCAA Region 14 teams heading into this week’s regional tournament. On Thursday night, the task was just a bit too big. Tyler Junior College withstood a late run by the Seahawks as the Apaches escaped with a 69-59 win at Centenary College, ousting the Hawks from the tournament and ending their season with a 20-12 record.

Seahawks ride late offensive surge to claim 90-84 win at regional tournamentMarch 05, 2019In a season of last-minute wins, it was only appropriate that Lamar State College Port Arthur made itself known with more late-game heroics in a 90-84 win at the NJCAA Region 14 men’s basketball tournament Tuesday. The Seahawks put together a 14-2 run over about three and a half minutes late in the second half to secure a first-round tournament win over Bossier Parish Community College at Centenary College. The win improves the Hawks’ record to 20-11, but more important, they keep their season alive with a second-round game set for Thursday against Tyler Junior College.

Coastal Bend College topped the Seahawks 109-97 on Wednesday night as the two teams played a rescheduled NJCAA Region 14 game, re-set from February 2 after the LSCPA team van was involved in a traffic accident.

Devaughn Thomas dominated in this one, scoring 25 points with 12 rebounds as the freshman guard from Lafayette, Louisiana came alive in the second half for his best performance of the season. Fellow freshman Chris Thomas, from Vivian, Louisiana, made his presence known, especially in the critical second-half push, to score 11 points with 12 rebounds and three blocked shots.
