The Seahawks were looking to prove their first loss of the season Monday was little more than a fluke. Instead, Lamar State College Port Arthur ran into a hungry home team at the Pensacola State College Tournament on Tuesday as the Pirates escaped with a 56-51 win at Hartsell Arena.

The Seahawks, who fell to Northwest Florida State College 92-60 on Monday, fall to 6-2 for the season with the loss to the Pirates. LSCPA concludes its tournament trip to Florida with a 1 p.m. game Wednesday against Gulf Coast State College.

LSCPA, which was averaging over 90 points a game this season, managed just 22 points over the first 20 minutes of Tuesday's game but still led the Pirates 22-21 heading into the break. Sophomore Daniel Braster led the Hawks with 12 first-half points.

An aggressive defense kept the Seahawks close during the second half but that aggression also led to personal fouls that put the Pirates at the free throw line where they hit 19 of 26 shots. By comparison, the Seahawks hit 5 of 9 from the charity stripe.

Braster finished as the game-high points leader with 19, collecting a double-double performance with 11 rebounds. Kanntrell Burney finished with 15 points for the Hawks while Evan Palmquist chipped in 11 in the effort.

Pensacola's Zondrick Garrett led the Pirates with 18 points.
