With the game tied with under three minutes left, the Seahawks needed to do two things: make free throws and play defense. They did both, taking a 72-66 win over Bossier Parish Community College at the Carl Parker Center on Thursday night.

The Seahawks improved to 9-7 overall and 2-5 in NJCAA Region 14 play while BPCC fell to 9-9 and 2-5.

The Hawks opened up a substantial lead several times during the game only to see the Cavaliers respond to pull close. It was late in the game that BPCC finally caught the Hawks, tying the game and then getting ahead with just under three minutes left to go.

LSCPA defensive pressure kept the Cavs from getting too far out front and eventually, the Hawks got back out front. While Bossier Parish flirted with taking the lead, it wouldn't happen again as the Hawks' defense stifled any opportunity for BPCC to regain the lead.

Sophomore guard Bentravin Phillips led the Seahawks with 14 points and four steals while teammate Jaylen Subject added 13 points with eight rebounds.

BPCC's Jahill Bethea led all scorers with 18 points.

The Seahawks hit the road this weekend, traveling to Beeville to face Coastal Bend College in another NJCAA Region 14 game. Tip time for that game is 2 p.m. The game will be shown live at www.lamarstateseahawks.com.
