  • Hawks explode in the seventh to claim Region 14 split vs. Angelina

    Let's just say the Seahawks have a flair for the dramatic. Down 3-1 heading into the seventh inning against NJCAA Region 14 foe Angelina College, Lamar State College Port Arthur put five runs on the board and then held off the Roadrunners in the bottom half of the inning to claim a 6-5 win. The victory accounted for a doubleheader split against Angelina College.

    When Vance Edwards was hired to build a softball program at Lamar State College Port Arthur, he started with little more than big plans and a desire to create a program that would help young women excel on the field and in the classroom. Now, 20 years later, as he looks back on a generation of athletes who have helped fulfill his original goals, Edwards has decided it’s time to let his legacy stand on its own. He announced his retirement Thursday, January 11, as the Seahawks head softball coach.
