Angelina College took advantage of several early-game turnovers by Lamar State College Port Arthur to get out to a big lead, then held on as the Seahawks surged late as the Roadrunners took the 92-77 NJCAA Region 14 win at the Carl Parker Center on Wednesday.

Although the Seahawks fell behind by as many as 20 early in the game, they were able to come back to pull to within eight late but couldn't close the gap completely as Angelina College moved its season record to 15-6, 6-4 in Region 14 play. The loss drops LSCPA to 11-9 and 4-6.

"I thought our press was effective in the second half, but we just got too far in the hole early in the game," Head Coach Lance Madison said. "In the second half, we played a good game. We just allowed too many points in transition in the first half."

Bentravin Phillips, a sophomore guard from Lafayette, Louisiana, led the Seahawks with 23 points and four assists, while teammate Jaylen Subject added 17 points and four rebounds.

Angelina College was led by Patrick Johnson's triple-double effort as the sophomore guard from Compton, California, scored 17 points with 10 rebounds and 10 assists. Xavier Owens scored 19 points with five assists, Eddie Evans added 14 points and seven rebounds, and Morgan Baldwin chipped in 12 points and six rebounds for the Roadrunners.

The Seahawks hit the road for a 4 p.m. Region 14 game Saturday, February 3, in Jacksonville, then get a break with an open date on Wednesday, February 7.
