Rivera home run not enough to get Hawks past Southern Union in Alabama

GULF SHORES, Alabama — Lamar State College Port Arthur let two games get away in the first day of the Faulkner State Sun Chief Classic, falling to Wallace State Community College-Hanceville 6-3 and Southern Union College 10-5.

The Hawks, now 6-10 overall this season, will play three games Saturday in the second day of the tournament in Gulf Shores, Alabama. LSCPA takes on Shelton State College at 1:30 p.m., Wallace State-Dothan at 3:45 and Coastal Alabama Community College at 6 p.m.

The Seahawks once again held a lead midway with a 3-2 advantage over Snead State but couldn't hold off the Parsons as they came back to score four runs in both the fifth and sixth innings to take an eventual 10-5 win.

The Hawks collected 10 hits, including a home run from Rivera. Hunt went 2 for 4 in the game with a run-scoring double. LSCPA also got RBIs from Brown, Vanessa Espitia, and Elicia Gonzales.

Espitia started on the mound and threw five innings, allowing 13 hits and seven earned runs while collecting two strikeouts. Hunt came on in relief, tossing two innings and allowing one earned run on four hits with three strikeouts.
