Four early runs enough for Hawks to take 4-1 win over Coastal Alabama

Lamar State College Port Arthur put up four runs in the second inning, then held on for the 4-1 win over Coastal Alabama Community College-South in the final day of the Faulkner State Sun Chief Classic in Gulf Shores, Alabama.

Vanessa Espitia picked up a one-out single in the second inning, followed by a two-out RBI double by Brooke Smith to give the Seahawks a 1-0 lead. Makasha Brown singled to short, followed by an Olivia Rivera walk to load the bases. Britni Hunt doubled to left to score everyone on base for the 4-0 advantage.

Coastal Alabama scored its lone run in the bottom of the second but that's all it could manage in the game.

The Seahawks amassed 11 hits in the game, led by Brown's 3 for 4 performance. Hunt was 2 for 4 with three runs batted in. Madeline Stone, Vanessa Espitia and Smith finished with two hits apiece.

Espitia went the distance on the hill, allowing one earned run on nine hits with three strikeouts and two walks.
