Frederick leads eighth-inning rally to lead LSCPA past TVCC

Taylor Frederick picked up a double to score two runs in a big four-run eighth inning to put Lamar State College Port Arthur on top of Trinity Valley Community College 8-4 in a non-conference game in Athens, Texas.

The Seahawks led 4-1 heading into the bottom of the seventh inning but allowed three runs to send the game into extra innings.

It was in the eighth when Olivia Rivera led off with a single, followed by a fielder's choice by Britni Hunt on the ensuing at-bat. Rebecca DeLome singled and Madeline Stone walked to load the bases for Taylor Frederick. The sophomore infielder doubled to score Hunt and DeLome for a 6-4 lead. Brooke Smith, a freshman centerfielder, tripled to send Stone and Frederick home for an 8-4 advantage.

LSCPA scored a run in the second, two in the sixth and one more in the seventh. After a walk, error and fielder's choice put runners at second and third, Elicia Gonzales hit into a one-out fielder's choice, scoring Frederick.

Jessica Saenz doubled in the sixth to score a speedy Brooke Smith, who scored from first after earning the base on a leadoff walk. Olivia Rivera singled to first, scoring Vanessa Espitia who had come on to run for Saenz.

The Seahawks' fourth run came in the seventh when Saenz doubled to center field, sending Smith home from first. She had reached on a walk.

Saenz finished 2 for 5 with two doubles, while DeLome was 4 for 5 with a run scored. Rivera finished 3 for 5 with a run batted in. The Hawks put together 15 hits in the game.

Britni Hunt went the distance in the circle, allowing four earned runs on seven hits with eight strikeouts and two walks.
