Southern Union gets past Seahawks at Sun Chief Classic

Lamar State College Port Arthur came on late but it wasn't enough to get past Southern Union State Community College as the Bison collected an 11-3 win in the first day of the Sun Chief Classic in Gulf Shores, Alabama on Friday afternoon.

The Seahawks fell behind after an eight-run third inning by Southern Union State. LSCPA scored a run in the fourth but the Bison added two in the top of the fifth to push their lead back out to 10-3. The Bison scored another run in the top of the sixth to complete the win.

The Bison outhit the Hawks 11-6 though LSCPA came up with three extra-base hits in the contest.

Savannah Trahan led the Seahawks hitters with a 2-for-3 performance at the plate with a run scored and two runs batted in. Maleia Taylor, Grace Coffelt and Trahan each had doubles at the plate.

Miranda Pollock started in the circle, allowing four earned runs on four hits with a strikeout, while Savanna Wise relieved in the second inning, giving up four runs on two hits. Alexa Garza came on to close, allowing three earned runs on five hits with one wilk and two strikeouts.

The Seahawks continue their tournament play in Alabama on Saturday with three games against Snead State Community College at 1:30 p.m., Pensacola State College at 3:45 and Chattanooga State Community College at 6.
