Lamar State College Port Arthur couldn't overcome an early push by Pensacola State College, giving up a 16-6 decision to the Pirates in the second day of the Sun Chief Classic in Gulf Shores, Alabama.

After Pensacola scored four runs to start the game, the Seahawks managed to rebound with three in the bottom of the first. The Pirates took off, though, scoring five unanswered runs through the top of the fourth inning. The Hawks added two in the fourth and another in the fifth but Pensacola's five runs in the top of the sixth forced a run-rule end to the game.

Erica Riley went 3 for 4 with two runs batted in and a run scored to lead the Seahawks. Freshman Maleia Taylor doubled home a run for the Hawks while Grace Coffelt, Vanessa Espitia, Celeste Salazar and Savannah Trahan each picked up RBIs in the effort.

Alexa Garza started for the Seahawks in the circle, working 3.1 innings, allowing nine earned runs on 13 hits with a strikeout and two walks, while Savanna Wise finished the final 2.2 innings, giving up six earned runs on seven hits with two walks.
