Seahawks amass 13 hits as Hunt two-hits Frank Phillips

After an entire month of playing on the road, Lamar State College Port Arthur's softball team celebrated their finally coming home with a doubleheader sweep of Frank Phillips College, taking both games in run-rule fashion 11-0 and 17-3.

The Seahawks have now won five of their last seven, including four straight, to improve their season record to 5-10.

In the first game of Friday's doubleheader against Amarillo's Frank Phillips College, it would be dominating performances at the plate and on the mound that resulted in the five-inning victory for the Hawks.

The Seahawks amassed 13 hits, led by freshman catcher Maleia Taylor's 3-for-4 performance. She had two doubles, two runs scored and two runs batted in. Freshman Savannah Trahan doubled and tripled in going 2 for 3 with two runs scored and an RBI, while sophomore Elicia Gonzales finished 2 for 2 with two runs scored, an RBI, a walk and a double. Freshman Celeste Salazar was 2 for 3 with a run scored and freshmen Erica Riley, Grace Coffelt and Miranda Pollock each had singles for the Seahawks. Pollock had three stolen bases, Coffelt had two base thefts and sophomore Brooke Smith added another for LSCPA. Sophomore Vanessa Espitia had a hit and a walk in the game for the Hawks.

Britni Hunt went the distance in the circle for the Seahawks, pitching a two-hit gem with six strikeouts to claim her first scoreless victory of the season. She now has 46 strikeouts in seven appearances.
