Hawks hitters explode for 17-3 win over Frank Phillips

Lamar State College Port Arthur sent 18 hitters to the plate in a 14-run third inning as the Seahawks rolled to a 17-3 win in the second game of a doubleheader sweep of Frank Phillips College at Martin Field on Friday, February 28, 2020. The Seahawks took the first game 11-0.

With the two five-inning game sweep, the Seahawks are now 5-10, winning five of their last seven games, including four straight. Friday's games were LSCPA's first home games of the season with another doubleheader coming up against Bossier Parish Community College on Sunday, March 1, starting at 1 p.m. at Martin Field.

The Seahawks got home runs from sophomores Britni Hunt and Brooke Smith and freshman Maleia Taylor, while Elicia Gonzales and Smith had triples against Frank Phillips College. Hunt, Taylor and Erica Riley each had doubles as the Seahawks amassed 15 hits in the game.

Smith finished 3 for 4 with three runs scored and three runs batted in, while Riley was 2 for 3 with two runs and three RBIs. Hunt was 2 for 3 with two runs scored and three RBIs and Grace Coffelt finished 2 for 4 with two runs and three RBIs. Leadoff hitter Taylor was 2 for 4 with four runs scored and two RBIs.

Savannah Trahan, Vanessa Espitia, Celeste Salazar and Elicia Gonzales each also had hits for the Seahawks with Trahan picking up a stolen base.

Freshman Miranda Pollock picked up the win for the Seahawks, working three innings, allowing just one earned run on four hits, while Alexa Garza worked the final two innings, allowing two earned runs on five hits with a strikeout.
