Seahawks wallop Meridian CC in 14-2 run-rule final

Lamar State College Port Arthur scored in four straight innings in its opening game at the Mardi Gras Invitational in Youngsville, Louisiana on Thursday morning, rolling to a 14-2 win over Meridian Community College.

The Hawks, now 3-2, scored five in the first, four in the second and third, and added one more in the fourth inning of the shortened run-rule decision. 

The Seahawks amassed 13 runs batted in on 13 hits, led by Morgan Kerr's 2-for-2 performance with a double and six RBIs. Kerr, a sophomore leftie from LaPorte, is on a tear this season, with two home runs, a double, and 16 RBIs over six games.

Kyleigh Gulledge, a sophomore outfielder from Cypress, Texas, did well at the plate vs. Meridian, going 3 for 4 with three runs scored for the Seahawks, while teammate Marisa Rosales went 2 for 2 with two doubles, three runs scored, an RBI, and two walks. Seahawk Makayla Marquez found her rhythm at the plate, going 1 for 2 with two runs scored, two RBIs, and a walk. Alana Smith, a freshman from Port Neches, collected three RBIs after going 1 for 2.

Mia Guerrero, a freshman pitcher from Bryan, Texas, threw a complete game, allowing just four hits and no earned runs while striking out five.
