Hawks open conference play with split vs. Blinn College

Lamar State College Port Arthur made an early statement with an NJCAA Region 14 split against Blinn College on Thursday, March 14, at Martin Field as the Seahawks fell 6-3 in Game 1 before rebounding for a 6-2 victory in Game 2.

GAME 1: Blinn College 6, LSCPA 3

Blinn College limited the Seahawks to four hits in the conference opener for both teams. Marisa Rosales led the home team at the plate, going 2 for 4 with a double, while Rayven Ramos, Makayla Marquez, and Mia Guerrero each had a hit in the losing effort. Marquez and Hannah Murchison each had stolen bases in the game.

Allie Armstrong started in the circle for the Hawks, going 3.1 innings, allowing five runs, three earned, on five Blinn hits. Guerrero worked the final 3.2 innings, allowing one unearned run on four hits with one strikeout and three walks.

GAME 2: LSCPA 6, Blinn College 2

Two early Blinn College errors, followed by an explosive performance by Marisa Rosales, put Lamar State College Port Arthur in the win column as the Seahawks took a 6-2 win on Thursday, March 14, at Martin Field.

Rosales, a freshman outfielder from Victoria, Texas, finished the game 2 for 3 with two runs batted in and one run scored to lead the Seahawks' offense. Pitcher Mia Guerrero, a freshman righty from Bryan, Texas, was also 2 for 3 in the game. She picked up a complete-game win in the circle, allowing two earned runs with three strikeouts and three walks.

The Hawks, now 9-23 overall and 1-1 in Region 14 play, picked up three runs int he first inning, another in the third, and two more in the fifth.

With a rain delay of Saturday's doubleheader against Galveston College, the Seahawks' next outing is a road trip for two games at Angelina College on Wednesday, March 20. 

The Galveston College doubleheader is rescheduled for Monday, March 25, at Martin Field with games set to start at 1 and 3 p.m.
