    Lamar State College Port Arthur sophomores Devin Ellis and Tevin Baker have put ink to paper in preparation for their futures as basketball players. The Seahawks sophomores signed to play for four-year schools next season after completing their two years of eligibility at LSCPA this year.

    Lamar State College Port Arthur has spent the 2018-19 men’s basketball season playing the role of giant killer, defeating some of the best NJCAA Region 14 teams heading into this week’s regional tournament. On Thursday night, the task was just a bit too big. Tyler Junior College withstood a late run by the Seahawks as the Apaches escaped with a 69-59 win at Centenary College, ousting the Hawks from the tournament and ending their season with a 20-12 record.
  • Seahawks ride late offensive surge to claim 90-84 win at regional tournament

    In a season of last-minute wins, it was only appropriate that Lamar State College Port Arthur made itself known with more late-game heroics in a 90-84 win at the NJCAA Region 14 men’s basketball tournament Tuesday. The Seahawks put together a 14-2 run over about three and a half minutes late in the second half to secure a first-round tournament win over Bossier Parish Community College at Centenary College. The win improves the Hawks’ record to 20-11, but more important, they keep their season alive with a second-round game set for Thursday against Tyler Junior College.

Playing his final home game at Lamar State College Port Arthur, the Port Arthur native who prepped at Kelly Catholic shot 7 of 9 from the floor and had a game-high 19 points — as did fellow Port Arthuran Darion Chatman — in the Seahawks’ 84-69 win over Jacksonville College on Saturday.

    BEEVILLE, Texas – For the second time this season, the Lamar State College Port Arthur men’s basketball team found that there’s nothing good to be found south of Houston this season. Coastal Bend College topped the Seahawks 109-97 on Wednesday night as the two teams played a rescheduled NJCAA Region 14 game, re-set from February 2 after the LSCPA team van was involved in a traffic accident.

    Lamar State College Port Arthur fell behind by double-digits early but refused to quit, utilizing a stifling pressure defense to unsettle Blinn College for a 78-73 come-from-behind men’s basketball win on the road Saturday afternoon. Devaughn Thomas dominated in this one, scoring 25 points with 12 rebounds as the freshman guard from Lafayette, Louisiana came alive in the second half for his best performance of the season. Fellow freshman Chris Thomas, from Vivian, Louisiana, made his presence known, especially in the critical second-half push, to score 11 points with 12 rebounds and three blocked shots.

    Patience is a virtue but on Wednesday night, Alex Williams was through waiting his turn. Williams, a sophomore guard, set his feet and drilled the biggest basket of his collegiate career as his 3-pointer with 4.3 seconds left lifted Lamar State College Port Arthur past Lee College 72-71 in NJCAA Region 14 South Zone play.
